Colonial Williamsburg

Williamsburg VA was the capitol of Virginia from 1699 to 1780.  During the Revolutionary War with the British,  Thomas Jefferson the Governor of Virginia in 1699 moved the capitol from Williamsburg to Richmond Virginia.


Eight United States Presidents were born in Virginia: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson.


The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg is the second oldest in the United States, it was founded in 1693 and built in 1695.


William & Mary educated U.S. Presidents Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and John Tyler as well as other key figures important to the development of the nation, including U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall, Speaker of the House Henry Clay, and 16 signers of the Declaration of Independence.
